Bring your training goals into the room
An injury can leave you with more questions than answers. Should you adjust your routine? Which movements need attention? What would make returning feel more manageable?
You do not need to be a competitive athlete to ask those questions. Recreational runners, lifters, and active adults deserve a plan that takes their activities seriously.
What an assessment can explore
Start with when the problem began, how symptoms behave, and what has changed in your training or daily life. Useful details include:
- The movements or distances that bring symptoms on.
- Recent changes in training frequency, intensity, or volume.
- What you have already tried and how it felt.
- The activity you most want to return to.
A physical therapy assessment can examine relevant movement, strength, and function. The findings help guide goals and a treatment plan. APTA: preparing for physical therapy
A plan connected to your activity
“Return to exercise” is a starting point. Being able to tolerate a particular run, lift, or practice is a more specific goal to discuss.
Your plan should explain what you are working on, how to approach activity between appointments, and what will help guide progression. Bring questions about exercises that feel unclear or a routine that is difficult to fit into your week.
LUX’s full-body approach considers the demands of the activity alongside the area that hurts. It does not assume that every athlete with the same symptom needs the same program.
Running and knee pain
Pain around the kneecap can occur with running, stairs, or squatting. Changes in activity load may contribute, but a painful knee needs an assessment rather than a diagnosis based on location alone. APTA: patellofemoral pain

Common questions
Do I have to stop training completely?
That depends on the problem and your evaluation. Bring your current routine so you can discuss appropriate modifications and any restrictions.
Can you guarantee a return by my event?
A date can help define your goal, but recovery cannot be guaranteed to match a race or competition calendar.
Is this only for serious athletes?
No. The activity matters because it matters to you.
