Vestibular physical therapy in Chicago
Dizziness and balance problems can make ordinary activities feel uncertain. Turning your head, getting out of bed, or walking through a busy environment may become something you plan around.
LUX Concierge Physical Therapy in Lakeview East offers a personal setting to discuss these concerns and whether vestibular rehabilitation fits your needs. Your appointment is one-on-one, with no double booking.
What is vestibular rehabilitation?
Vestibular rehabilitation is an individualized exercise-based approach used for certain dizziness and balance problems. Depending on the findings, care may involve exercises for visual stability, sensitivity to movement, or balance. The appropriate combination depends on the underlying problem and assessment. Vestibular Disorders Association
Dizziness has different possible causes. An evaluation helps determine whether physical therapy is appropriate or whether another medical assessment is needed.
What about BPPV?
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV, is one possible cause of position-triggered vertigo. When identified, it may be treated with a specific repositioning maneuver. This differs from a general balance exercise program.
The maneuver should match the findings. A video or a description of symptoms cannot establish which treatment you need. Vestibular Disorders Association
What to discuss at your first visit
Describe the experience in your own words: spinning, unsteadiness, feeling faint, or something else. Helpful details include when it began, how long episodes last, what seems to trigger them, and whether other symptoms occur.
Bring relevant medical records and a medication list. Tell your therapist about falls, changes in hearing or vision, and activities you are avoiding.
At LUX, your concerns and daily goals help frame the conversation. Reading comfortably, walking with more confidence, and navigating a busy work environment can mean very different things for different people.
Common questions
Is every episode of dizziness an inner-ear problem?
No. Dizziness can have different causes, so it is important to assess the pattern and associated symptoms rather than assume a diagnosis.
Will I receive the same exercises as someone else with vertigo?
Not necessarily. Vestibular rehabilitation is tailored to the findings and your needs.
How many visits will I need?
That cannot be determined from a symptom label alone. Ask what the initial assessment suggests and how progress will be reviewed.
When to seek emergency care
Sudden dizziness with new trouble walking, vision changes, facial drooping, arm weakness, or speech difficulty can indicate a stroke. Call 911 immediately, even if symptoms improve. American Stroke Association
